Celebrating World Milk Day

This Thursday 1 June we come together with the global dairy sector as a community to celebrate World Milk Day, in recognition of the importance of milk. It’s a simple, natural way to acknowledge the people who make it all possible and to focus on the environmental, nutritional and societal impacts of the dairy sector.

This year, the focus of World Milk Day is to showcase the ways in which dairy is reducing its environmental footprint, while also providing livelihoods to one billion people and nutritious foods for countless more.

As a staple food product, milk is one of the most widely produced and valuable agricultural commodities on the planet, providing us with many essential micro-nutrients including calcium, magnesium, selenium, riboflavin, vitamins B12 and B5. Approximately 150 million households around the globe are engaged in milk production, fueling food security, nutrition and economic development. [Source: FAO, 2023]
